Why I Started...A Must Read✨

Even in your most successful moments always remember why and where you started. ✨
My journey with the BRAVE platform started in 2015 when I was only a freshman in high school! It’s funny because I actually started to work with BRAVE before I even knew what the MHSA organization was. I always say it was a God thing!
I was asked to mentor six little girls that were struggling emotionally and academically, very badly! They were physically and emotionally abusive to not only the other students but the teachers and support staff. The next stop for these girls was detention school, they were only in the second grade.
Once I started to mentor them I realized that our biggest issue was bullying and lack of self respect! To combat this I started to speak about the meaning of truly being BRAVE. We did many projects talking about women in history that inspire us! We started to set small goals and worked hard to achieve them. We celebrated even the smallest successes!
I have continued to watch these six little girls grow into incredibly successful young women. We have a class president, club leaders, A honor roll recipients and maybe even a future Oprah Winfrey! That’s a story for another time 😉
The many students I have mentored are my inspiration, biggest fans (and critics), bright light and so much more! Without them I would not be where I am today. When I look at them I remember why I started✨🤍
